Because he won't often pose for photos, I'm opting to share Adam's artwork with you instead.  In today's scene, we have two very different race cars pitted against one another in a dead heat.  Who will cross the finish line first?

And if you listen closely, you can hear the cheers from the crowds in the stands.

I strongly suspect this is a throw down between a 1976 Corvette Stingray and a 1939 Hudson 112.  And if I know my boy, he's pulling for the Hudson.

So many things could be said about this comparison.  The one I prefer?  "I married a masterpiece."

The Tractor vs The Rowing Bike

Adam's drawing skills have exploded over the past year.  For a kid who showed zero interest in drawing just a year ago, it's amazing to see these skills develop.  In today's sketch the tractor is squaring off against the rowing bike.  Since a tractor is fairly slow, it would be interesting to guess who would win the race!

Looks like Ashley is taking after one of the great masters.  Leonardo da Vinci was known for writing this way.  Look closely at her writing as she approached the edge of the page:

Artwork #3: The Sledding Crash

This is the longest written sentence I've seen from Adam yet:

Top sentence translation:  The X means where the krach (crash) was!

Translation of bottom sentence:  Me and Ashley went sledding and we got push down the hill and we were going fast and we crashed (cracht) and we were on sleds!

This sledding crash was all Adam talked about for a few days.  Once he drew it in detail for us, it certainly made a lot more sense.

Today's drawing shows the Lionel rocket launcher, the milk cart landing platform, the wood barrels, and most importantly, the Virginian locomotive.  This kid loves Lionel.

Our kids are learning how to spell at school using a scaffolding method.  Makes for interesting reading around our home!

 And in an interesting mix of art and architecture, Adam brought home an Eiffel Tower!

 

En Plein Air

Well, not exactly "en plein air" because it's December and it's cold, but you get the idea.  Ashley is working hard on breaking a habit so that she can have a fairy garden with mini plants.  Last weekend she asked to "go to Mahoney's so I can draw the plants".  Kid you not.  She's asking to sketch on site.  Who can refuse a request like that? 

Happy Purim!

Our dear neighbor made beautiful Purim monkey masks for Adam and Ashley to wear today.  Ashley proudly modeled her monkey.  Adam was a bit more reluctant, so Ashley held up his monkey on her belly.  The masks are truly a labor of love.  Thanks Iba!

Visit to the deCordova Museum

We visited the deCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, MA recently.  There was a fantastic children's event.  We read books about boats, saw an art piece about boats, and then the kids built (and floated!) their own boats.  

In these clips, Adam is interested in getting back to nature.  His boat is in the stroller.  Ashley, on the other hand, is very proud of her boat and won't give it up.
